Even More LEGO Avengers HYPE!!!

This post is an update on the upcoming LEGO Avengers game that I pre-ordered a long time ago.... In a galaxy far, far away....

And no, I don't care that I'm quoting Star Wars when I'm making a Marvel blog post because they are both Disney IP's and thus I can say whatever I want!!!!

Onto actual stuff about the game. First, bad/sad news. The game is getting pushed back to 2016 (January 26, if you want the exact date). But it does not matter because I pre-ordered the game when I had the chance so I will (hopefully) be getting that awesome Silver Centurion minifigure.

Silver Centurion!!!

Anyway, Good news is that the mystery of the game having 150+ playable characters has been solved. Because as a recently released trailer showed, the game will have not only a LEGO-ized version of the Avengers and it's sequel, Avengers: Age of Ultron, but it will also include Thor: the Dark World, Captain America and that movie's sequel, Captain America: Winter Soldier, and finally, Iron Man 3. However, those movies will not be featured in the main story, but like the recently released LEGO Dimensions, will feature these films in self-contained Adventure Worlds (basically they are available as bonus levels)

.Also, LEGO humor strikes again. You remember back in the first LEO Avengers HYPE post that I rambled on about the Hulk taking a Selfie? Well now, he falls in love with a chicken. Yeah. First selfies, now chickens. Unfortunately, I could not find any images of this clip so I leave a link to the second trailer (1: you have to copy/paste the link. And 2: They play the scene right at the end of the trailer).

Boom. Link. Have fun!!!

They (they being the creators of the game, TT Games) have also stated that they are pulling some stuff from the comics as well. Here's hoping we get Spider-Man in the game. Or the Guardians of the Galaxy. Either or will do. Speaking of comics, the most obscure Marvel character of all time has been confirmed in the game.

Yes. Devil Dinosaur is in the game. In case you do not know, and most people probably don't, Devil Dinosaur was a Marvel character created by Jack Kirby. Basically, the concept of Devil Dinosaur is that he was created to employ children's love of dinosaurs ("Hey, let's make a comic about a T. rex called Devil Dinosaur! All the kids would love that!"). Sadly, the comics didn't catch on, and it was discontinued. Devil Dinosaur never got his own movie or TV show, or video game (prior to LEGO Avengers). He did make a large number of cameos and supporting roles in other comics and cartoons, with his most recent appearance being in the cartoon show Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H..

Hey guess what? Phil Coulson is still alive!

It's a shame Devil Dinosaur didn't catch on. But imagine another world where Devil Dinosaur got the respect he deserved, and even got his own feature length film! In that same alternate world, Spinosaurus would be the most popular dinosaur, not T. rex. But the sad truth of this reality is that Devil Dinosaur is still the most obscure character in all of Marvel and last time I checked, Tyrannosaurus Rex is still the most popular dinosaur, not Spinosaurus.

Bruce Banner at the Barton Farm!

Another new thing is random crimes. While you are in the admittedly massive over-world, random crimes will happen, which you can (optionally) solve. Kind of like the Amazing Spider-Man 2 video game tie-in, now that I am thinking about it. Speaking of the over-world, you can Free Roam in New York City, Washington D.C., Asgard (for those of you that do not know what Asgard is, it's the Norse equivalent of Heaven), the Barton Farm (pictured above), Tony Stark's Malibu Mansion, and South Africa.

And finally, there are special side missions called Agent Carter missions. Obviously, this is a semi-tie-in to the Agent Carter TV show. But the concept behind the Agent Carter missions is that a retired Agent Carter tells you about her adventures during the 1950's. The entire world changes to match the times! For example, all the cars are 50's era cars, everyone is wearing 50's era clothing, etc.

So that is it for this LEGO Avengers update. Slightly upset the game got pushed back to 2016, but still, the more news that comes out, the more hyped the game gets.

Transformers Devastation!!!

This post is about a Transformers game that came out two days ago at the time of this post. Unless you are reading this in the year 2987 in which case why are reading a centuries old blog? Or rather, do they still have blogs in the year 2987? If so then AWESOME!!!

NOTE: I HAVE NOT PLAYED THIS GAME AND THIS IS NOT A REVIEW. THIS IS A "hey check out this awesome thing I found while goofing off on the Internet" TYPE THING.

As you may be able to tell from the logo above, this game is based off the ORIGINAL 80's cartoon. Which is a good thing because the Transformers look infinitely cooler. There will be someone out there that thinks that the Micheal Bay designs are better, but you can't beat the classics.

This is how the main hero of Transformers,
Optimus Prime, looked in the 80's (my personal
favorite).

Anyway, back on to the subject at hand. Transformers Devastation was made by Platinum Games (who made Wonderful 101, among dozens of other games). Platinum Games is famous for making action packed, combat focused games. That is exactly what they did with Transformers Devastation.

Transformers Devastation is a beat-em-up game. For those of you who do not know what a beat-em-up game is, basically it's a genre of video game where your character fights several enemies at once and can easily lock them into a combo.

This game has been frequently criticized for a lack of a lock-on, but that I think is a little bit silly. Sure, a lock-on would definitely make some of the more hectic missions more convenient/accessible/easier, but this is Platinum Games we're talking about. In addition for a knack to make their games as action packed as possible, Platinum games is also (in)famous for making their games unnecessarily difficult. I couldn't beat Wonderful 101 on normal. Mostly because of the most brain-dead QTE ever but still.

Sadly there are only five playable characters in the game. Thankfully, they each play very differently from one another, keeping the combat fresh. I never played the game, but the style contrast between the characters is enough for people to notice simply by WATCHING gameplay. With your eye balls.

One of the playable characters, Grimlock, can
transform into a T. rex that can breathe fire.

This game also has a RPG style level up system. And no, you can't play as your favorite Autobot and the entire team levels up, you have to level each one up individually. Or you can steamroll the entire story mode with a maxed out Optimus Prime.

I am looking forward to getting this game. The only downside of this game that I can see is the lack of playable characters. And that, from what I have heard, the story mode is only 6 hours long.

This game is available at GameStop for $50.00 (or $49.99. Or $20.00 + $30.00. Or $25.00 + $25.00.) The game has received both positive and negative reviews from several video game journalists.

The Adventures of Puss in Boots Review!!!

This post is not on a video game or a movie, but it is on a (NETFLIX exclusive) TV show.

In case you never heard of Puss in Boots, he is a talking cat (correction: he's a SPANISH talking cat) from the Shrek franchise. In the Shrek films, Puss in Boots is mostly a supporting character/sidekick. But his popularity scored him both a feature length film and a TV show, both of which are actually very well-made.

Puss in Boots himself is based off a French fairy-tale (why Dreamworks changed him from French to Spanish is a complete mystery).

The core concept of the TV show is that Puss accidentally discovers the Hidden City of San Lorenzo (they say the name of the town in every episode to make sure you don't forget. LOL) after meeting a lady cat named Dulcinea (pictured below).

Dulcinea!!

But Puss inadvertently breaks the spell that prevents the forces of evil from finding the city. And considering it has the treasure of the most powerful sorcerer/wizard ever, it gets attacked by villains at least once in every single episode. And Puss beats the snot out of (most of) them. Because Puss is a hero! Even though it was his fault that the city got discovered by the forces of evil, so....

There are currently 15 episodes on Netflix, but some real stand outs are episodes 2 (because it introduces the most hilarious interpretation of the Sphinx), 6 (introduces Puss in Boots' old sensei), and pretty much every episode with the elderly alchemist Artephius in it (he's in the vast majority). Trust me, Artephius is the best character in the show.

Artephius!!!

Now the show itself is very well-made. The graphics work surprisingly well, and the acting/writing is good too. Of course, as this IS a TV show, there will always be a episode that stands out for someone but someone else will go "meh". What's also impressive is this is a family friendly comedy show.

Another surprising thing is that some episodes are canonical which is a rare treat for family friendly shows (for example, at the end of Episode 2, the Sphinx decides to move to San Lorenzo and guards the front entrance. In almost every episode she is still there, protecting the town).

Another thing to note is that San Lorenzo has a orphanage. And the kids living at said orphanage idolize Puss in Boots. Oh, and sorry. I cannot find any decent pictures of said orphans so you will have to watch the show to see them. But anyway, here is a basic rundown.

  1. Toby - He is a giant pig and Puss' #1 biggest fan.
  2. Kid Pickles - He's a kid. That loves pickles. What did you expect?
  3. Vina - Vina has a tendency to make up facts about things. 9 times out of 10 those "facts" are slightly creepy.
  4. Esme - An adorable 5-year-old girl.

Aside from Vina, I really like the orphans. But then again I am the only that thinks that Vina is creepy. Just like how I am the only one who thinks Dilophosaurus is cute. So who knows? Maybe someone else loves Vina.

Nobody loves Dilophosaurus.... :(

I highly recommend this show to anyone that likes a Shrek film or anyone that likes Spanish cats sword fighting bad guys and stuff. Overall I give this show a 9/10. Also, let me know if you think that Dilophosaurus is cute. Or not. Your choice.
