Echidnas

I'm sure you know Knuckles the Echidna, but what about real live echidnas?

A long-beaked echidna. Best picture Wikipedia has though.

Real echidnas are mammals. They are, like the platypus, hybrid in appearance. Echidnas have the head of a ant-eater or aardvark, but the quills and claws of an porcupine, or a hedgehog. an echidna appears in the movie Legends of the Guardians: The owls of Ga'hoole. But this one is apparently either a shaman or a fortune teller, as he claims that "legend foretold him" of everything that happens. He even yells "I foretold you so!" at the end of the movie. But anyway, there's also one fact that makes them related to platypuses or platypi or whatever a group of them is called. Echidnas lay eggs. And they're considered mammals. Weird, right?

Echidnas are insectivores, in other words they love eating bugs. Mainly ants and termites. Here's a list of things they will eat.
  • Ants
  • Termites
  • Earthworms
  • Any bug they catch.

It should be noted that Knuckles is an echidna, but he looks like a red hedgehog, so shouldn't they call him "Knuckles the HEDGEHOG"?
