Zootopia/Zootropolis Preview!

You all should know by now that this blog is mostly video game stuff as that is my forte. But I do like movies and films as well. So today we are going to PREVIEW (Notice the 'P') A movie I've been dying to see and is coming out in the U.S. in three days at the time of this post. Obviously if you are reading this in the future then the movie is already out. But what movie am I excited to see?

Zootopia. Also known as Zootropolis in some countries. Before you ask, yes. This is a Disney movie. Who doesn't love Disney? Disney does make some really good movies.

What makes this film different from previous Disney films is that literally every character is an anthropomorphic animal. For those of you who do not know what that word means, go watch the launch trailer where a certain fox educates you in the most hilarious way possible (at least I found it funny). The very first trailer also explains that the Zootopia universe takes place in an alternate timeline where humans never became a thing.

Have fun!

Anyway, back on the subject at hand. This film is already out in theaters in Europe and everyone there is like "OMG Zootopia is the best Disney film ever made!" which is a good thing I guess.

I myself don't much about the story because I avoid spoilers for movies like this. From what I DO know is that this film is partly inspired by detective/crime stories and that the film pokes fun at real life and even Disney itself. Which is a nice change of pace for me since I have seen dozens upon dozens of Disney movies and noticed there is a bit of a pattern with their stories. So Disney, please find it in your hearts to not kill off Bunny Girl's mom and dad.

The two main characters star a rabbit named Judy Hopps (yes, her last name is a pun) and a fox named Nick Wilde.

Judy (left) and Nick (right).

Random fun fact! In case you didn't know, foxes and rabbits happen to be mortal enemies in real life.

Between these two I think I like Nick more because he is such a troll (I think he knew that the sloth would take forever to run that plate number but did it anyway just to annoy Judy lol). Seriously, this guy knows how to push bunny girl's metaphorical buttons. Nick is also a con artist, which might explain his *ahem* manipulative/scheming behavior.

Judy's priceless reaction to seeing the "naturalist" club!

I also like Judy because she is a police officer rabbit. Also her last name is a pun! Automatic like points simply for having a pun in her name!

Also, this is mostly a little shout-out to Vince but...

*IT'S ME!?

This shot right here reminds me A LOT of Vincent's favorite horror game, **Five Nights at Freddy's. Just replace whatever the heck this thing is with Foxy, Marionette, Fredbear, or Spring-Trap (all the COOL animatronics lol) and you got F.n.@.F. in a nutshell. There is even a "jump scare" in one of the trailers (***SPOILER ALERT, Zootopia, the city, turns out to be just a giant animatronic factory). It wasn't that scary, but you can't compare to the madness of F.n.@.F.'s absolutely rabid fan base (F.n.@.F fans are scarier than the actual games)! I think the Five Nights at Freddy's fan base might be even more intense than Undertale's fan base, and that's coming from a guy who is PART of said fan base.

Back on track, I just now noticed that this film is cherry-picking it's animals. While that may seem strange to hear but we have yet to see a reptilian character or a ****avian character. The cast, as far as I know, completely mammal. I think from a technical stand point that choosing a reptile for a character would be easier to animate due to lack of feathers. Sorry for ranting, but I'm a scientist and it's my job to point stuff like this out. As a scientist, IT'S AN OUTRAGE!!! I WANT TURTLES IN THIS MOVIE, DANG IT!! But as a movie goer, I'm content with the animal variety. Still want some turtles in this movie though. I really, REALLY like turtles. Especially sea turtles!

Anyway, the last thing I have to say is that I have heard legends  that this film has a hidden message about racial tension/stereotyping other people that becomes more obvious halfway through the movie, but that is not confirmed information. I would not be surprised if that was the case because it's Disney who have been known to hide deep messages in their films *cough cough* Fox and the Hound *cough cough*.

And finally, leave your thoughts on this movie in the comments below. Be sure to include a #FiveNightsatZootopia in your comment if you think that one screen shot looks like something out of F.n.@.F.. And if you never played a F.n.@.F. game before, I am in the same boat as you since I avoid horror games like the plague. So no Vincent. I will never play a F.n.@.F game. I will never know the "joy" of being jump scared by robots dressed as animals.

*- It's me. A quote from Five Nights At Freddy's 1.

**- Five Nights at Freddy's. A popular series of horror games made entirely by Scott Cawthon. Also happens to be Vincent's favorite video game (Mine is Undertale).

***- NOTE: Not actually a spoiler, just me poking fun at Zootopia because I love poking fun at the things I like.

****- Avian. Another word for "bird-like". The More You Know! *twinkle*

In case you wonder how I know so much about a horror game, it's because Vincent never shuts up about Five Nights at Freddy's. In a similar fashion, I never shut up about Undertale. So it works both ways. It's that psychological tick I mentioned in my top five Undertale characters list (still not breaking the rules since zero is the first number).

Hidden fun Fact! I will review the movie once I see because I really want to see it.

  1. Hey! I just now realized! Nick Wilde is the THIRD Disney Character to be a fox, the first being Todd (Fox and the Hound) and the second is the Disney-ized Robin Hood. Coincidence? I THINK NOT!!!
